Nia is a short fitted kurti in hand block printed cotton, worked on an indigo base with a traditional buti motif in ivory: a small upright flower on a stem, set in rows between fine vertical dashes so the ground reads as lightly striped behind the print. It hangs from thin spaghetti straps onto a straight square front, and side slits at the hem keep it easy over trousers. The back fastens with an adjustable tie you set yourself, which is what lets a fitted cut like this work across a range of shapes. Because every motif is stamped by hand, the ink varies in density from one buti to the next and the rows drift slightly, and that is the mark of real block printing. Indigo softens gradually with washing rather than going patchy. Individually tailored by hand and finished ready to wear. There is no lining anywhere in it.
