The Whispering Sands Pasta Bowl is a wide flat ceramic pasta bowl in matte ivory twenty-four centimetres across, six deep, with a generous low rim. The proportions are the classic pasta-plate shape: wide enough to spread out a substantial serving, deep enough to hold sauce. The ivory is the colour of warm sand at dusk softer than chalk-white, more muted than cream. Against the brown of fettuccine, the red of bolognese, the green of pesto, the muted ivory pulls back and lets the food read sharply. The matte finish absorbs light evenly across the body gloss would have created highlights that competed with the dish. Matte keeps the bowl quiet, the way a good pasta bowl should be. One litre at this depth means a substantial single serving fettuccine for one, ravioli in a single layer, risotto with room to swirl.
