The Ribbed Onyx Silk Vase is a wider ceramic vase in deep onyx black - twenty centimetres tall, fifteen across at its widest - with horizontal ribs running the full height of the body. The ribs are pressed before firing, which gives them a sharper line than ribs scored after. From across a room the vase reads as a single solid form; up close, the texture comes through. The black is full and glossy. Light catches a single bright highlight along each rib, creating a series of fine vertical lines that move as you walk past. The interior is plain glazed black, so the vase looks finished from any angle. The wider, lower proportions suit a low arrangement - a small bunch of stems cut short, a sculptural piece of dried branches, a single peony with its leaves. It is not a vase for a tall lily. A note on how it's made. Each vase is shaped, glazed, and finished by hand. The ribs are pressed individually before firing. Small variations in rib depth and glaze pooling are part of how a handmade ceramic looks.
