The Bowl-d Morning is a 600ml ceramic serving bowl with an unusual finish half the body is matte black, half is deep red, with the colours meeting in a soft transition rather than a hard line. The effect reads like a sunrise caught at the moment when the sky is still half-dark and half-warm. The shape is a wide shallow bowl: twenty-one centimetres across, six tall, with a flat base and a low rim. The proportions suit a single served dish placed in the middle of a table a pasta, a salad, a curry served family-style. The black side is matte. The red side is matte. Both are deeply pigmented. The transition is hand-glazed, which means no two bowls sit at exactly the same gradient point the meeting line moves a centimetre or two between pieces. A note on how it's made. Each bowl is shaped, glazed, and finished by hand. The half-shade glaze is applied in two passes, with the transition softened by hand. Small variations in the gradient location are part of the piece.
