Decoding Colour Blocking: 3 Staffers Dip Their Toes In The Trend

by Simran Arora

An OG instagram hit, the art of colour blocking has been an internet sensation since the audio visual medium has taken the internet by storm. You can easily spot colour blocking online or IRL if you see someone flaunting clashing bold hues like a vibrant orange placed next to a vibrant pink, or a parrot green paired with another beaming shade of pink.
When it comes to teaching its origins, colour blocking has its roots from the works of designers like Raf Simmons and Jil Sanders on the runway back in Spring 2008. This trend had its major moment in 2011 when designers including the likes of Prabal Gurung to Haider Ackerman introduced sets of head-to-toe clashing hued fits. In 2022, colour blocking has reemerged and all the runway styles are taking cues from decade old fits to assert dominance.
Looking at 2022 trending styles, we have a mix of hues thrown together like acid yellow, tangerine, tomato, cyan, and maroon with darker shades to create a psychedelic cocktail of fits that the social algorithm loves and catches the eye at a first glance.
Presenting, Twenty Dresses’ latest collection Colour Therapy, a modern take on colour-blocking with playful and vibrant hues in dainty yet classic styles perfect for the upcoming months that will have a way of brightening up your day.
Three of our staffers wore the ‘You Fixed My Posture’ dress from the collection.
A V-neckline silhouette with attached elbow length puffy sleeves, front mock buttons and side pockets. The dress sizes up to 4XL and flatters all body types. Scroll down to discover how they styled the dress and their thoughts on Colour Therapy.
1. Have you ever used bold colours for your everyday outfits. If yes, how have they impacted your day?
Shreya: Absolutely! It makes me want to take more risks and gives me that extra boost of confidence.
Khushbu: I use bold colours all the time, I really like adding a pop of colour to my outfit. Whether it’s a small silhouette or it’s a statement accessory. I feel they instantly uplift your entire look, they add that extra factor to the look, and also brighten up my mood.
Simran: I strongly feel that bright colours have a way of uplifting your mood and wearing them definity contributes to brightening up your day. I prefer bright hues like yellow and pink whenever I want to add a spring to my day!

2. How did you style ‘You Fixed My Posture’?
Shreya: With a red lip and a pair of strappy sandals
Khushbu: I kept it super simple and paired it with a transparent pair of block heels and kept my hair open. If I were to take this look outside, I would add a pair of statement earrings.
Simran: I added even more colour by throwing in a green bag and bright coloured flats and minimal jewelery to complete the look.

3. What do you think is the ideal occasion to wear the dress?
Shreya: The dress is super versatile. I’d wear it to a brunch with my girlfriends, to the movies or even a date.
Khushbu: I think this dress is super versatile and can easily be worn from day to night. For a day event you can keep your hair open, pair it up with quirky flats and for the night, you can add a statement pair of earrings, statement heels and you’re good to go.
Simran: The dress is perfect for a day picnic or a weekend getaway.
