These shows are serving up some serious style inspiration this Pride month

by Drishti Mistry

It’s finally June and you know what that means – its pride month. Along with celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s the month of celebrating inclusivity and individuality in all its glory. This means highlighting and celebrating all the aspects of this diverse community that adds value to our lives – fashion included. So, we thought, why not round up some fashion-forward shows led by LGBTQIA+ themes and stars. Now we’re not saying that these shows don’t serve up some serious style inspiration on any other day of the year, but we just thought that if you’re all cooped up at home and missing out on attending an actual pride parade, these are the shows you could binge watch to satiate your FOMO. Scroll down to find what’s on our pride month watch list…

Queer Eye

For those of you who aren’t aware, this show stars five queer personalities, as the name suggests, who are responsible for giving individuals a holistic makeover. Each of these five individuals, also known as the fab five, are experts in everything from beauty to fashion. So as you can imagine, there is much to be learnt from this show. We love how this show provides real and relatable sartorial solutions that come handy in everyday dressing.

Next in Fashion

Hosted by Tan France, a queer fashion expert and Alexa Chung, a fashion influencer and entrepreneur, this show puts emerging designers from across the globe on the pedestal and has them compete for the ultimate exposure into the mainstream fashion scene. Watch this show to understand what exactly goes into the making of a garment and how diverse the fashion design scenario is. If you’re looking to get inspired then this is the one to watch.

Schitt’s Creek

Schitt’s Creek

Ah, the reasons to love this Canadian show are so so many – it’s funny, it’s entertaining, it’s heart-warming, it celebrates pansexuality and most importantly, it’s incredibly stylish. Whether it’s the designer pullovers that the character of David Rose played by Dan Levy is seen sporting or the maximalism meets monochrome looks that Moira Rose played by Catherine O’Hara is known for, this show has taught us so many lessons, stylistically speaking.

Four More Shots Please

Closer home, this show might have feminism as a recurring theme but what we enjoyed watching the most is the chemistry between Umang (played by Bani J) and Samara (played by Lisa Ray), second only to their wardrobes of course. The show’s styling was headed by ace celebrity stylist Aastha Sharma so it doesn’t come as a surprise that all the looks were on point and well thought through. Some would even call it the Indian iteration of Sex And The City, so if not for its gripping story-lines, then even for their avant-garde outfits, this show is a must-watch.

RuPaul’s Drag Race

This one is not for the faint-hearted yet probably the most loud and proud show out there. This May, this iconic show led by RuPaul, the queen of drag queens, saw its 12th season conclude. While all the thirteen queens of the season served up some seriously stylish looks, our eyes were glued to Gigi Goode and Nicky Doll, the two major fashion drag queens of the season.
