We’re Finally Ready To Wear Denims Again After A Lockdown-Hibernation

by Lakshmi Nayar

If I may, lockdown for me has been like a pair of tight, horrendous velvet pants with an ill fitting, polyester crop top. With that said, while we see a natural shift in demand for loungewear this year, I was honestly getting a bit tired of my worn out kaftans and my purple dinosaur printed PJs (Barney fans, anyone?). I don’t know but as months flew by, I came to terms with the fact that it was time for a quick closet reboot. Denims to be specific. From perfectly tailored kimono tops to relaxed distressed pants, I’ve listed a few strong denim selects that I currently have my eyes on from Nykaa Fashion.

American Eagle, Rs.2,730
Fact. A classic denim jacket exhibits personality and self-expression. I’d pair this relaxed, cotton-made outerwear by American Eagle with an oversized white t-shirt, a pair of high-rise jeans and white sneakers— even if it means hitting the local grocery store.

Forever 21, Rs.1,750
Apart from convincing my grandmother that I do have a steady income everytime I slip on a pair of distressed pants (traditional joke but still exists), I respect brands that offer good distressed clothing. I’d club this mid-rise pair with a solid, office shirt and clear heels. I’d also thrown on a tanned crossbody for my essentials.

MAGRE, Rs.1,750
Other than it being a rather quick way to fixing a stubborn wedgie in 3 seconds flat (a sentence I never thought I’d type), this pair of snap button pants are extremely comfortable and pretty versatile— it goes with almost everything from my wardrobe. I usually wear them with a plain white, well-fitted tank top and a pair of elevated loafers.

The Dapper Lady, Rs.1,990
Tailored with fine denim, this white bustier is fierce. I’m not usually into crop tops but I found the communication on the piece very interesting and that’s honestly what got me to adding this product to my bag. You could partner this bold piece with a black oversized blazer and trousers. I’d wear a pair of white trainers and gold hoops to add character.

VERO MODA, Rs.1,710
I was sold at ‘kimono’ but here’s why I actually ended up buying this top amidst a cold pandemic. Three reasons. The fabric is very breathable (important), the cut is fantastic—plus, it’s hard to find good kimonos that are not floral. Pair them with a pair of cropped cigarette pants, sky-high heels and a basic half-moon bag.
