Know Your Designer – Kanelle

by Nykaa Fashion

Kanelle is a Delhi-based fashion business that was founded in 2011 out of pure enthusiasm for creativity. Kanika Jain launched the label in order to bring her women’s fashion designs to life. Kanika has had a passion for fashion since she was a child. She would observe her mother wear lovely textiles and even construct clothes for her to wear. During these formative years, she developed a strong creative impression and a passion for textiles, prompting her to launch her own label.
Kanelle is a brand for women who prefer easy-to-wear clothing. Through an inventive approach, the collections explore timeless separates with careful detailing. Kanelle embraces wardrobe staples that are feminine while also being unique and wearable, thanks to the utilisation of handcrafted indigenous textiles.
Every collection has a unique tale to tell, which makes each piece of clothing unique. The brand feels that fashion should not be limited to a specific group of women, so all of their collections contain something for all fashion lovers.
Jain calls her design philosophy ‘TIE’. T is for transitional, which means that each and every garment can be worn from day to night. I stands for inclusive, which means that the collections are inclusive in the sense that they include every body type, are very body friendly, and feature a wide age group, including women in their 50s and beyond. E stands for expressive since every collection expresses itself in some way, and every design is created in such a way that it tells a story.
Kanelle has worked with artisans such as weavers, printmakers, dyers, and embroiderers to create one-of-a-kind, beautifully handcrafted works over the years. Block printing, hand embroidery, and cloth weaving are just a few of the processes used to create their clothing.
Kanika is passionate about new fabrics, from denim to handwoven khadi, Chanderi and jamdani. She is a voracious reader and an enthusiastic traveller who adores Europe, and she finds inspiration in both.
