Signs that your bra is ageing

Being the multitasking women that we are, it happens that we tend to turn a blind eye to the condition of our intimates – let’s face it, the wear and tear of our lingerie might not find its way to the top on our priority lists. But nonetheless, it’s important to know when it’s time to replace your bra as, like it or not, it is that one garment that comes in the closest contact with your skin and that you wear round the clock. So, how do you tell that your bra, no matter how loved, is inching towards its expiry date? Here’s how!

1. The band is stretched out

Was the band snug when you bought the bra but now it keeps getting pulled out of place? Does locking your bra even at the tightest hook not prove helpful? It’s a sign!  It’s time for a new bra – over time, the wings of the bra tend to get worn out due to the wear and tear.

2. Cups are shapeless or unfit

With improper wash and care or simply due to time, the cups can lose their shape. Worse even, they can fall too big in fit – this you can tell if you experience substantial gaps between your breasts and the cups. Cups can also become too tight, resulting in breast spillage. Both of these can also be the results of weight fluctuations, but in any case, it’s a sure tell that it’s time for a change.

3. Straps are too loose

If the straps of your bra keep slipping down even after adjusting them with the ring sliders, it means that your bra is through seeing its best days. It’s important that your straps sit just right over your shoulders without digging into your skin.

4. Underwire is proving painful

We can all agree that there’s no pain like that of an underwire poking at your skin, so if that’s something you’re experiencing at the moment, it’s time to bid adieu to your bra.

5. Fabric is failing

Are small but many threads peeping out of your bra? Are the colours fading? Or is the fabric generally losing its stretch? If the answer to any of these questions is yes then you’ve got to say no to the bra you’re wearing.
