Amoh By Jade Show Us Where They Got Their Inspiration From

by Drishti Mistry

Creative directors Monica and Karishma lauded for their free spirited and carefree silhouettes have yet again proven their mettle. This spring, they showcased breathable pieces with their signature sartorial elegance at the Lakmé Fashion Week. Ask them about their inspiration and they are elated to introduce us to their muse.
Dancing to the rhythm of the community they say. Tunes of warrior tribal women. The women of Dongria Kondh tribe to be exact. True to the moniker ‘The Descendants of Niyam Raja’, this tribe held their own when they shielded their self-sufficient lifestyle and Niyamgiri Hills from mining mammoths. Their indigenous art reflects the environs of their valley – mountains, farms, forests and streams, everything stylistically translated in hand crafted weaves.

Imbued with the tribe’s brilliant aesthetic, the duo lent their creative genius and churned out contemporary gossamer silhouettes out of khadi cotton weaves. A rich mix of chanderi, malmal, khadi, cotton and fine silks injected with intricate embroidery culminates their Spring-Summer ’18 assemblage.
