Metallic Magic For Abraham & Thakore’s Debut At Lakmé Fashion Week

by Drishti Mistry

David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore, the undisputed veterans of the Indian fashion sphere, are recognised for lending their signature modern spruce to indigenous fabrics. While they often opt for monochrome palates and metallic moods, their winter/festive collection ‘#CocktailsAndSamosas’ featured dainty bows, sequined silhouettes and regal textures, reminiscing of oriental opulence.

The collection, true to its name, revolved around cocktail dressing. Drawing inspiration from the traditional art of handweaving zari with silk, the collection infused elaborate brocades constructed in Varanasi along with hand embroidery and cutwork. In addition to that, viscose and tussar fabrics were put to use.

Subtly borrowed from the North East, the silhouettes resembled the chogas and jamas with cover-up details. Also incorporated were lungis and sarongs, wraps being the crux. Re-iterating the glitz and glam synonymous with Mumbai, this collection was a seamless fit for their debut at Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai.
