Kanelle’s Summer-Resort Collection Was An Ode To Natural Beauty

by Drishti Mistry

Handmade textiles and abstract shapes have been Kanelle’s designer Kanika Jain’s signature since the time she debuted at Lakme Fashion Week’s Winter/Festive 2016 season. For Summer-Resort ’19, her ‘Mystic Meadows’ collection revolved around flora, the beauty of nature and was inspired by Azumma Mokoto, A Japanese florist and botanical sculptor.

Translating the florist’s work into 3D hand embroideries, block prints, stitch details and manipulation of fabric into floral motifs, the collection was enhanced with the use of fabrics such as cotton linen, chanderi, Kota linen, Khadi silk and organza. With Japanese accents such as wrap silhouettes and giant butterfly sleeves, comfort was at the core of this collection. In line with the collection, the hair and makeup were kept minimal, soft and feminine. From wrap and shirt dresses to summer coats and tasselled bags all in a deliciously earthy colour palette, Kanelle’s collection was a fabulous sartorial ode to the exquisiteness of nature.
