Anita Dongre Grassroot’s Sustainable Resplendence At Lakmé Fashion Week

by Drishti Mistry

Anita Dongre’s Grassroot initiative has always been at the centre of sustainability, creating livelihoods for craftsmen and crafting meaningful pieces out of sustainable fabrics. For this season, Grassroot’s Summer-Resort line was in support of Sustainable Development For Northeast India, that sourced hand spun silks from smaller clusters in Rampur near Guwahati to generate employment for the weavers.

Silks such as Eri, Muga and Matka with block prints and embroidery were moulded into elegant ethnic wear in a rich melange of ivory and gold hues – making them the ideal summer wear. In addition to the floral embroideries, the pieces also featured sequins and dainty gota patti for some subdued shine – one of Anita Dongre’s favourite works. The collection offered a brilliant mix of enchanting kurtas, loose pants, shararas, lehengas, anarkalis and dupattas. With a dewy bare face and neatly pulled back hair, the hair and makeup for the show looked refreshing while not taking the focus away from the outfits. In conclusion, Anita Dongre’s Grassroot brought a signature resplendence to the runway through their sustainable ethnic ensembles.
