What the Nykaa Fashion Army is currently reading

While this lockdown has bought its set of problems, (think home confinement and social distancing), there is a silver lining to be found during this free time. With our social calendars left wide open, we can indulge in activities that we often sidelined in the pre-coronavirus world. Some are taking on new skills, learning cooking or knitting and some are rediscovering their love for old hobbies. I identify with the latter, as now I find ample time to curl up on the couch with my favourite novel. As I delve deeper into my bookshelves, I’m constantly looking for new suggestions. So, I decided to tap into the Nykaa Fashion Army’s booklist for inspiration!

I rarely get the time to catch up on my reading, but during this lockdown, I’ve had the chance to re-acquaint myself with some new books. With the current work from home situation, I needed some motivation to ensure that I remain productive. So, I turned to The Miracle Worker by Hal Elrod, a productivity book that has been helping me remain positive and energetic with its visualization techniques and affirmations.

I’ve been devouring the book, The Tea Girl Of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa Lee. I stumbled upon this book by chance while browsing the fiction bestsellers category on Scribd. I couldn’t have asked for a more nourishing novel than this one! It deals with subjects spanning traditions, relationships and tea farming but what I thoroughly enjoyed about the book was the scenic pictures it paints for me. Right from the lush mountains of Yunnan to the buzzing streets of L.A, it gives me a much-needed escape from the mundane reality.

I’m currently reading Remnants of a Separation by Aanchal Malhotra. I love to lose myself in the historical tales from the past and Aanchal Malhotra weaves a gripping narrative around the partition of India. This particular quote from the book has stayed with me: “Memorialization is not a passive practise but an active conversation.”

I decided to start my binge-reading sessions with Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford, a book that has been on my to-read list for the longest time. I favour fiction novels, particularly historical and contemporary romance, and Jamie Ford’s sweet love story about two American-Asians during the 1940s, kept me hooked on. The emotional relationships the author weaved in the book almost had me in tears and I simply didn’t want to put the book down!
